A New Jersey family is mourning the heartbreaking loss of two young children after a boating accident claimed their lives during a family outing on Barnegat Bay.



Nine-year-old Mya Bella Golabek and her seven-year-old brother, Sigmund "Siggy" Golabek, died on the night of July 19, 2026, after the boat they were traveling in struck a channel marker. Authorities said the impact threw both children into the water. They were rescued and rushed to a nearby hospital, but neither survived. The incident remains under investigation, and officials have not announced what caused the crash.


Family members remember Mya as a cheerful and energetic girl who loved softball, basketball, swimming, drawing, and spending time at the beach. She was known for her competitive spirit, kind heart, and bright smile that made others feel welcome.



Siggy was described as a gentle, adventurous boy with a vivid imagination. He enjoyed baseball, basketball, swimming, dinosaurs, and Sonic the Hedgehog. His family said he shared a special bond with his parents and loved spending time with his relatives and the family's two dogs.


Those closest to them say the brother and sister were inseparable. Whether playing together, sharing adventures, or simply making each other laugh, they were best friends whose bond brought joy to everyone around them.


According to investigators, the children were on a 30-foot boat with their grandparents when the vessel collided with a channel marker in Barnegat Bay. Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene, but despite their efforts, the siblings could not be saved. Authorities have not filed any charges, and the investigation is continuing.


The tragedy has deeply affected the local community, with neighbors, friends, and first responders expressing their grief and support for the family. Funeral services were scheduled in Forked River, New Jersey, where loved ones gathered to celebrate the children's lives and remember the happiness they brought to those around them.


Instead of flowers, the family requested donations in Mya's memory to her youth softball team and in Siggy's memory to Popcorn Park Zoo, honoring the interests that meant so much to each child.
