His sons, Adam and Ethan, stood beside him in the kitchen surrounded by empty moving boxes.

“Dad, you sure you want to start with the girls’ room?” Adam asked quietly.

“No,” Daniel admitted. “But if I don’t start there, I never will.”

Before they could begin, the doorbell rang. Diane, Laura’s sister, stood outside holding a casserole dish, wearing the same careful smile she had worn for twenty years.

“I came to help,” she said softly. “I couldn’t let you pack up Laura’s things without me.”

Daniel let her in, though Adam’s expression hardened immediately. None of the boys had ever trusted Diane.

Adam volunteered to clear out the basement first. Minutes later, a scream echoed through the house.

“Dad! Come here right now!”

Daniel and Ethan rushed downstairs.

Adam stood frozen near the back wall, holding a dusty plastic disc case.

“It was hidden behind a loose panel,” he whispered. “Mom always told us never to touch this wall.”

On the front of the disc was a date — the night before Laura and the girls disappeared.

Ethan retrieved an old laptop from upstairs. Daniel’s hands shook as the disc loaded. Then suddenly, Laura appeared on the screen alive, crying, and terrified.

Laura explained that Diane had been pressuring her for months over their mother’s inheritance. According to Laura, Diane threatened custody battles and claimed Laura was unstable.

Diane reached into her purse and handed him an old yellowed envelope.

Inside was a letter from Laura mailed from a small coastal town two years after the disappearance.

Daniel, Adam, and Ethan immediately drove to the town listed on the envelope.

After six hours on the road, they arrived at a modest blue house near the coast.

Daniel knocked softly.

The door opened.

An older woman with gray hair stared at him in shock.

“Laura?” he whispered.

Tears filled her eyes instantly.

“You found us.”

Behind her, three young women stepped into the hallway.
