This is Andre Thomas.

In March 2004, Andre was unraveling in plain sight.

Severe mental illness.

Religious delusions.

Drinking bottles of cold medicine like water.

Hearing voices. Seeing visions.

On March 5, 2004, a friend rushed him to a mental health clinic after violent episodes. He warned them:

“If y’all don’t help me, I’m going to step in front of a bus.”

They told him to go to the ER.

He didn’t.

Weeks later — March 25 — he stabbed himself in the chest and finally showed up at Texoma Medical Center in Grayson County, Texas. He said he was trying to “cross into heaven.”

Doctors wanted him held for psychiatric evaluation.

But they had to wait on a judge.

And while they waited…

he walked out.

No security stopped him.

No emergency hold was in place.

Nothing.

Two days later — March 27, 2004 — he knocked on the door of his ex-wife, Laura Thomas, 20 years old.

Inside that home:

• Laura

• Their 4-year-old son, Andre Jr.

• Laura’s 1-year-old daughter, Leah

He brought three knives.

Why three?

Because he later said he didn’t want to “cross-contaminate” their blood.

He believed they were possessed.

He believed demons were inside them.

He said he was “freeing” them.

What he did next is almost unspeakable.

He stabbed them to death.

He cut open their rib cages.

He attempted to remove Laura’s heart but mistakenly took part of her lung.

He removed both children’s hearts.

Then he placed a dollar bill near the bodies — focused on the pyramid and the eye — a symbol he believed was controlling him.

Afterward?

He laid beside their bodies and stabbed himself again.

When he didn’t die…

he put their organs in his pockets

and walked home.

At home he:

• Washed the knives

• Changed his clothes

• Called Laura’s parents

• Left a voicemail saying:

“I need y’all’s help… I think I’m in hell.”

He confessed.

Turned himself in.

And it still didn’t stop.

While alone in jail, he gouged out his own eye with his bare hands, quoting Mark 9:47 — the scripture about plucking out the eye that causes you to sin.

Doctors couldn’t save it.
