Woman Testifies About Suspect in Nancy Guthrie Case — Says He Is Her Son-in-Law

A quiet neighborhood in Rio Rico, Arizona, became the focus of an intense police investigation this week amid the ongoing search for 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie.

Authorities searched a local home after receiving a tip that Nancy might be inside. The homeowner, identified as Josefina, said officers arrived at her property and conducted a full search.

“They had somebody give a tip that the lady was in my house,” Josefina said. “I told them you can go in and search my house. There is nobody there. I have nothing to hide.”

Josefina revealed that her son-in-law, identified as Carlos, is being investigated in connection with the case and was detained by authorities. However, she firmly denied he had any involvement in Nancy’s disappearance.

She said officers showed her surveillance footage and images taken from Nancy Guthrie’s home to determine whether the person captured on camera was Carlos.

“They showed me the picture,” she said. When asked if it looked like him, she replied, “No, it doesn’t look like him.”

Josefina described returning home to find officers inside her house after they had broken down the door while she was away in Tucson. She said she was unsure whether they had presented a search warrant at the time but later confirmed there is now an active warrant related to the investigation.

Investigators reportedly seized electronic devices from the home, suggesting they are examining potential digital evidence.

Josefina also recounted the moment officers entered the house.

“They broke my door. They went inside. My son was playing on his Nintendo. He had his headphones on. They put him in handcuffs and took him outside,” she said.

She added that Carlos works as a delivery driver and has never mentioned Nancy Guthrie before. She said she only became aware of the name after seeing it on Facebook once news of the disappearance began circulating.

Despite the escalating investigation, Josefina expressed sympathy for Nancy and her family.

“I’m sorry for what’s happened,” she said. “Whoever took her, I hope she gets back safe.”

Video from the scene showed a heavy police presence in the area during a traffic stop connected to the case. The investigation into Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance remains ongoing as authorities continue reviewing evidence gathered from the property and the detained individual.

The community is still waiting for answers.
