The body of 72-year-old Jerry Boucher was found six days after he fell through the ice while walking with his wife and their dog in Eastham, Massachusetts.

Jerry’s body was discovered around 9:30 a.m. on Feb. 20 by members of the Barnstable County Fire Department Technical Rescue Team. He was located in a marsh area about half a mile northeast of the Bee’s River parking lot, according to Eastham police.

The tragedy began on the morning of Feb. 14, when a loose dog described as wet and in distress was found in the parking lot of First Encounter Beach. When officers arrived, they heard a woman screaming for help in the water.

An officer attempted to rescue her but fell through the ice. A second officer also fell in while trying to help. Both officers managed to return to shore and were taken to a local hospital.

A search and rescue dive team later found the woman under the ice at about 11:12 a.m. She was pronounced dead at the scene. She was identified as Kit Boucher, 71.

Authorities determined that Jerry had likely fallen through the ice before emergency personnel arrived and did not resurface.

Friends described Kit and Jerry as a loving couple who had been together since they were 15 years old and were known for taking walks together. Their daughter said the family is devastated by the loss and expressed gratitude for the efforts of first responders, while asking for privacy during this difficult time.
