James Van Der Beek's Widow Kimberly and Their 6 Kids Are 'Out of Funds' After His Death, Facing Uncertain Future
James Van Der Beek’s widow, Kimberly Van Der Beek, and their six children are facing an uncertain future following the actor’s death on Wednesday, Feb. 11, due to complications from stage 3 colorectal cancer.
According to a GoFundMe created by friends of the family, the financial strain from James’s extended battle with cancer and medical care has left the family out of funds. They are reportedly struggling to remain in their home and maintain stability for their children during this difficult time.
“In the wake of this loss, Kimberly and the children are facing an uncertain future. The costs of James's medical care and the extended fight against cancer have left the family out of funds,” the fundraiser description states. It adds that the family is working hard to stay in their home and ensure the children can continue their education.
The funds raised will go toward essential living expenses, bills, and educational support for the children. The message notes that any donation will help the family find hope and security as they rebuild their lives.
James and Kimberly shared six children together: daughters Olivia, 15; Annabel, 12; Emilia, 9½; and Gwendolyn, 7; and sons Joshua, 13; and Jeremiah, 4.
Kimberly announced James’s passing on Instagram, writing, “Our beloved James David Van Der Beek passed peacefully this morning. He met his final days with courage, faith, and grace.” She asked for privacy as the family grieves.
James was first diagnosed with colorectal cancer in August 2023 and publicly shared his diagnosis in November 2024. At the time, he said he was privately managing the illness with the support of his family and expressed optimism.
In previous interviews, the actor described fatherhood as a “humbling” experience and often spoke about the joy of watching his children care for one another.
