A judge in Texas has sentenced 21-year-old James Sotelo to 40 years in prison for fatally shooting his friend 13 times and shooting his own brother in the face.

 A judge in Texas has sentenced 21-year-old James Sotelo to 40 years in prison for fatally shooting his friend 13 times and shooting his own brother in the face. 



At the age of 18, James Sotelo, who had dropped out of high school, invited his 17-year-old friend Corey Thompson to spend the night at his home in March 2021. Thompson was shot during the early hours of the morning. 


The reason behind Sotelo's sudden decision to open fire on Thompson at approximately 3 a.m. remains unknown. 


Using a 9 mm handgun, Sotelo fired 13 rounds, fatally wounding Thompson. 


Most of the shots hit Thompson in the back as he tried to escape the attack. 


Additionally, a bullet from Sotelo's gun went through a wall and struck his brother in the face as he slept in another room, according to prosecutors.
